My art is an exploration of the importance of change and releasing the past, especially the people and situations
that hinder personal growth, empowerment and transformation. The utilization of mythic figures, archetypes, motifs
and themes allows me to explore letting go of the familiar, safe and secure in order to travel to the dark, often
frightening, places of the soul. In this way, I've learned to trust my inner voice and honor my soul's need for
expression and challenge. . : Recent Posts : .

Sunday, November 27, 2005Persephone![]() Embroidered & Beaded Solvent Transfer ![]() Okay, I don't know what I've managed to do to my digital camera but my photos tonight seem to be even worse than they usually are. I'm just going to have to give in, admit defeat & read the manual. :-) Anyway, "Persephone" is finished & ready to be incorporated into the altered book that I'm working on. So the photo of the 5 blue rattan orbs on a piece of silver metallic paper is the one that I started with. ![]() Simple Still Life - Version 1 ![]() ![]() Simple Still Life - Version 2 ![]() I was happiest with Version 2 because I like the way the rattan orbs seem to float. Labels: simple still life challenge Thursday, November 24, 2005Making My Debut Into the World of Quilting...![]() Quilt 1 ![]() ... so here's my first quilt top. Now, I have a sewing machine but I've never actually used it so "experimentation" doesn't even begin to describe this project. If all else fails, I can always hand-quilt it & hide my sins with fabulous fibers & beads, of course. Labels: quilting Wednesday, November 23, 2005Persephone: Work-in-Process![]() Embroidered Solvent Transfer: Work-in-Process ![]() Now that I've finally recovered from having the flu for 5 weeks, I'm back in the studio working on my final project for my "Imagery on Fabric" class. The theme for the final project is "Transformation" so I thought I would do an altered book using "Women Who Run With the Wolves". The embroidered solvent transfer shown above is for the chapter on Demeter & Persephone. I'm new to embroidery so I'm a little slow but it's coming along. The only things missing at this point are some french knots & beads, of course. DI Francis Bliss, of Hereford CID, is convinced he knows where the bodies are buried, but diocesan Deliverance Consultant Merrily Watkins -- called in to conduct a controversial funeral -- wonders if Bliss isn't blinkered by personal ambition. And are the Underhowle deaths really linked to possibly the most sickening mass murders in British criminal history?" Labels: quiz Monday, November 14, 2005Need Really Good Drugs...Well, I'm hoping to get some pictures posted this evening of all the works in process laying around my studio. I've had the flu off & on (mostly on) for about 3 weeks now & even though I've been working steadily, I don't seem to be reaching closure on any of the projects. I have to admit that I've been focusing on projects that I can work on while I'm sitting on the chaise lounge under my electric blanket in front of the TV. So, here's what's on my work table right now...
Labels: life Sunday, November 13, 2005What I'm Reading...![]() The Chalice - Phil Rickman ![]() "Glastonbury, legendary resting place of the Holy Grail, is a mysterious and haunting town. But when plump, dizzy Diane Ffitch returns home, it's with a sense of deep unease -- and not only about her aristocratic family's reaction to her broken engagement and her New Age companions. Plans for a new motorway have intensified the old bitterness between the local people and the 'pilgrims', so already the sacred air is soured. And, as the town becomes increasingly split by violence and death, Diane, local bookseller Juanita Carey and the writer Joe Powys must now face up to the worst of all possibilities: the existence of an anti-Grail -- the dark chalice." I've always regreted not making the time to visit Glastonbury when I was travelling monthly to London on business. Joanna Colbert, Gaian Tarot Artist's Journal, has posted some incredible pictures of her visit there & shared some of her experiences. Labels: quiz Friday, November 11, 2005Tri-MemeOkay, I confess... I stole this meme from DebR at Red Shoe Ramblings... And it was much harder than I thought it was going to be. Three screen names that you've had:Sapphire_Dakini, Sapphire_Dragon, IsisAfire Three things you like about yourself: My sense of humor (okay, it's a little dark & twisted but it works for me), my focus & drive (now there's a pretty spin on what most people probably refer to as my being stubborn), my Wiccan spirituality Three things you don't like about yourself: My nose, I’m a little obsessive / compulsive (or maybe I'm just following a really rigid schedule), I can be incredibly self-absorbed (What do you mean I'm not the center of the universe!) Labels: meme Sunday, November 06, 2005What I'm Reading...![]() A Crown of Lights - Phil Rickman ![]() "When a redundant church is bought by a young pagan couple, the local evangelical minister reacts with fury. In an isolated community on the Welsh border, a modern witch-hunt then begins. Diocesan deliverance consultant Merrily Watkins is expected to keep the lid on this cauldron, but what she discovers will severely test her loyalty to the Church itself. Meanwhile, there's the problem of the country solicitor who won't be parted from his dead wife, and the ancient mystery surrounding five local churches all dedicated by St. Michael...Also, a killer with a tradition to guard." Labels: quiz Tuesday, November 01, 2005What I'm Reading...![]() The Wine of Angels - Phil Rickman ![]() "A paradise parish of cobbled streets and timber-framed houses, a huge & haunted vicarage -- not what the Reverend Merrily Watkins ever had in mind. Nor had she wanted to walk into a local dispute over a play about a curious 17th century cleric accused of witchcraft...a story that certain old-established families would rather remained in obscurity. But this is Ledwardine, steeped in cider & secrets. And also -- as Merrily & her teenage daughter, Jane, discover -- a village where horrific murder is a tradition spanning centuries." Labels: books
