My art is an exploration of the importance of change and releasing the past, especially the people and situations
that hinder personal growth, empowerment and transformation. The utilization of mythic figures, archetypes, motifs
and themes allows me to explore letting go of the familiar, safe and secure in order to travel to the dark, often
frightening, places of the soul. In this way, I've learned to trust my inner voice and honor my soul's need for
expression and challenge. . : Recent Posts : .

Sunday, November 18, 2007New & Improved Well, Discord was very aptly named when I "completed" her back in June. I was never quite happy with her & she's been mocking me from my studio wall ever since. There was just something about that gold fabric that wasn't working so I spent some quality time with her this weekend & things seem to have finally come together. I'll also be re-working Twilight over the next few days.I spent some time this weekend working on my goals for 2008. The astrologer was right when she said 2007 was not going to be a productive year for me. I've had a very tough time getting focused. I've started down paths that ultimately ended up distracting me & a tremendous amount of time has been spent working on projects that I wasn't enjoying. So I've finally said "enough" & let go of the commitments. I think visiting other artists' studios during the Fort Point Open Studios in October was a turning point for me. I realized that my work is as good as anything that I saw & that I need to stop thinking that I'm going to find the "holy grail" in the next workshop or class. Saturday, November 17, 2007Addition to My Art Library "Renowned bead embroidery artists Heidi Kummli & Sherry Serafini share their secrets for creating beautiful beadwork in The Art of Bead Embroidery. Twelve step-by-step projects guide readers from beginner to advanced skills, culminating in a broad collar design from each artist. An illustrated guide to stitches, fringes, & finishing techniques, plus tools & materials, offers a solid background or refresher on the basics. A section on design concepts, with advice from both Kummli & Serafini on color & texture, shows readers how to create their own unique bead embroidery pieces. Inspiring ideas & detailed instructions make this book a perfect choice for anyone who wants to create gorgeous jewelry & art pieces."Labels: art books Friday, November 16, 2007What I'm Listening To "Connie Nixon is no stranger to making lists. In fact, she has rewritten the list of her deepest desires no fewer than 48 times. Each Sunday, for as long as she can remember, she’s tinkered with it. But actually doing something about her desires is a different story -- until the night she comes across a box belonging to her estranged daughter -- & makes a stunning discovery. It turns out that her seemingly straitlaced Jessica is part-owner of 1 of the most successful sex toy shops in America. Shocked by her daughter’s secret life, Connie tucks her list in her back pocket & does something utterly impulsive: she hops on a plane to New York City to track down Jessica -- & winds up on the wildest adventure of her life. Because with her daughter’s help, Connie’s about to let her own inner bombshell see the light of day. Now, for the 1st time ever, things are flying off Connie’s list. Like reconnecting with her daughter. Getting tipsy before noon. Also, the most startlingly extraordinary desire of all... falling in love. "Labels: audiobooks Thursday, November 15, 2007What I'm Reading "Meg Fratano has just witnessed the unthinkable: her husband of 27 years making love to another woman. In her bed. All Meg wanted to do was watch. Quietly, secretly, watch. Then she realized her life would never be the same. Meg isn’t sure what she wants, but she knows it’s not what she had. After almost 3 decades of marriage & 2 children, she has finally awakened to how unhappy she is. Now, with the help of friends old & new, even her teenage daughter -- a former brat who has blossomed into a startlingly wise young woman -- Meg just might break through the chains of everyone’s expectations for her & find the strength to take the 1st step on her own path. To strip away a lifetime of inhibitions. To dance naked at the edge of dawn..."Labels: books Monday, November 12, 2007Manifest Your Positive FutureToday's words of wisdom from the Daily Om... "Your plans may make you feel optimistic about the future today. Seeing your opportunities in a positive way might help you realize all of your aspirations. Perhaps you recognize that by thinking about the future in this way your thoughts could bring about the results you seek. Creating positive affirmations could help you affect these changes. Every time you start to think about what will happen to you today, you might repeat a sentence to yourself such as “The future holds everything I want” to keep you in a hopeful & confident frame of mind. While these affirmations are not true catalysts for change, they can alter your perspective about the events that happen to you, which in turn may initiate your openness & willingness to take the risks you need to reach your goals. Thinking positively about the future encourages us to put our mental energy into something that is promising & optimistic. When we feel that the future holds wonder for us we focus on what is going right in our lives at present. This feeling of contentment allows us to look at the things that occur in our lives—even things that might seem negative—as opportunities for growth. Viewing our lives as a series of possibilities means we see the future as an opening instead of something unknown & fearful. By putting yourself in a positive frame of mind today, the future will unfold for you in transformative ways."
