My art is an exploration of the importance of change and releasing the past, especially the people and situations
that hinder personal growth, empowerment and transformation. The utilization of mythic figures, archetypes, motifs
and themes allows me to explore letting go of the familiar, safe and secure in order to travel to the dark, often
frightening, places of the soul. In this way, I've learned to trust my inner voice and honor my soul's need for
expression and challenge. . : Recent Posts : .

Saturday, August 11, 2007Taking a Little Break from Blogging Have I mentioned that I absolutely HATE summer? Not only is it miserably hot & humid but there are hordes of unattractive tourists (What the hell were you thinking when you put those shorts on this morning? And no, you don't need to be shovelling more ice cream into your face.) with their squalling brats (When did people stop buying condoms?) everywhere.I'm feeling the need to retreat & simplify my life in some areas... to spend some time thinking about new projects that will really challenge & excite me... to do some reading to prepare for my ceramics class that starts in September... you get the picture. And I guess the biggest concession I'm making is that I'm going to give myself a break & suspend the goals that I established for myself at the beginning of 2007. There have been too many major changes this year & I never really gave myself time to adjust to them which is probably why I feel so totally exhausted & down all of the time. I need to re-charge. Deb over at A Stitch in Time posted an entry the other day that really resonated with me because it's an issue I've been thinking about & struggling with for quite some time. It's about reclaiming the parts of yourself that you've let slip away over the years. I'm still working on identifying those pieces & finding a way to reclaim them. I want to be that person in the picture again... excited about all of the possibilities that life has to offer. Of course, 14 years have passed since that picture was taken in my loft in Denver by my friend, Ken. There has been a lifetime of experiences (some good, some enlightening, & some extremely difficult) in those 14 years so I know I'm never going to be that exact same person again. I guess I want to be the new, improved version of her... Sapphire Dakini 2.0 so to speak. So, in order not to bore you with mundane postings that I know no one really cares about, I'm going to take a little blogging break. I'll see all of you on September 1st. Labels: life Sunday, August 05, 2007What I'm Reading "Medicine Creek, KS. In a town where nothing changes, where Main Street is a 2-block stretch of old & dusty businesses, a ghastly murder has taken place. The unknown victim has been placed in a small clearing in a sea of corn, mutilated & arranged in an elaborate tableau. Within 24 hours the sheriff is assuring a flood of reporters & tense residents that this is an isolated death -- until Special Agent Pendergast arrives in the stifling August heat to declare it the work of a serial killer.Soon neighbors begin to disappear -- only to reappear as the lifeless centerpieces of unspeakable displays. Convulsed with terror, the townsfolk whisper of the legendary Curse of the 45s. No one is safe from a killer who stalks his prey in the blackness of night & whose grotesque crimes are revealed by circling buzzards under the cruel summer sun. With the help of Corrie Swanson, an 18-year-old misfit, Pendergast unearths the secrets of this isolated town -- from the dark histories of its inhabitants to the darker mysteries hidden in the endless cornfields. And ultimately, as he unravels the local curse & the truth of Medicine Creek's greatest enigma, the Ghost Warrior Massacre of 1865, Pendergast comes face-to-face with the unimaginable evil that lies at the heart of this small town." It's better, but it still doesn't speak to me like Rain Forest does. Thursday, August 02, 2007Magazine MarathonI can't begin to tell you how much I hate summer & the hot weather. It's been waaaaay too hot here to be moving around much, so I've been spending the evenings catching up on my magazine reading... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Labels: magazines Wednesday, August 01, 2007The Wheel of the Year TurnsIn Wicca, Lughnasadh is 1 of the 8 sabbats or solar festivals in the Wiccan Wheel of the Year. It's the 1st of the 3 autumn harvest festivals & marks the end of summer & the beginning fall. Originally Lughnasadh referred to the funeral games hosted by the Irish sun god, Lugh, commemorating the death of Tailtiu, his foster mother who was the last queen of the Fir Bolg. She's said to have died from exhaustion after clearing a great forest so that the land could be cultivated. Highlights of the festival included Tailltean marriages or handfastings; craft festivals in which the medieval guilds, artists & entertainers would display their talents; & the Catherine wheel.
