My art is an exploration of the importance of change and releasing the past, especially the people and situations
that hinder personal growth, empowerment and transformation. The utilization of mythic figures, archetypes, motifs
and themes allows me to explore letting go of the familiar, safe and secure in order to travel to the dark, often
frightening, places of the soul. In this way, I've learned to trust my inner voice and honor my soul's need for
expression and challenge. . : Recent Posts : .

Tuesday, January 31, 2006Simple Still Life Challenge - January![]() January Challenge ![]() The Simple Still Life Challenge for January was to use 2 objects that are the same (brass cups) & 3 objects that are different (brass Dakini statue, framed watercolor print, brass vase) for a total of 5 objects. Labels: simple still life challenge ![]() The Da Vinci Code - Dan Brown ![]() "While in Paris on business, Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon receives an urgent late-night phone call. The elderly curator of the Louvre has been murdered inside the museum, a baffling cipher found near the body. As Langdon and a gifted French cryptologist, Sophie Neveu, sort through the bizarre riddles, they are stunned to discover a trail of clues hidden in the works of Da Vinci -- clues visible for all to see and yet ingeniously disguised by the painter. The stakes are raised when Langdon uncovers a startling link: the late curator was involved in the Priory of Sion -- an actual secret society whose members included Sir Isaac Newton, Botticelli, Victor Hugo, and Da Vinci, among others. Langdon suspects they are on the hunt for a breathtaking historical secret, one that has proven through the centuries to be as enlightening as it is dangerous. In a frantic race through Paris, and beyond, Langdon and Neveu find themselves matching wits with a faceless powerbroker who appears to anticipate their every move. Unless they can decipher the labyrinthine puzzle, the Priory's secret -- and an explosive ancient truth -- will be lost forever." I've been exploring different art schools here in the Boston area & the advantage of this particular program is that there are no academic requirements & I will be able to design a course of study that meets my particular needs. October 1st is the deadline for the application, which includes 2 essays & a portfolio of a minimum of 20 pieces so the next 9 months are going to be really, really, REALLY busy. I'm planning to use the new pieces being created this semester for the Collage & Mixed Media course that I'm taking with Laurel Sparks at the SMFA as part of my portfolio. In addition to the Diploma program, the SMFA offers a Fifth Year Certificate program which is 1 year of independent work concluding with a juried exhibition which is fully supported by the Museum School's faculty & exhibition staff. Soon, another practicing magician emerges: the young, handsome, and daring Jonathan Strange. He becomes Norrell's student, and the two join forces in the war against France. But as Strange is increasingly drawn to the wildest, most perilous forms of magic, he risks sacrificing not only his partnership with Norrell, but everything else that he holds dear." Labels: life Wednesday, January 04, 2006School of the Museum of Fine ArtsThought I would try the art classes at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts this semester so I registered for "Collage & Mixed Media" being taught by Laurel Sparks. "This workshop is designed to expand artistic vocabulary through collage & mixed-media techniques. You will explore a variety of materials that can be used to express ideas & emotions in a tactile, visual form, including fabric, found objects, cut paper, paint, ink, wax, rust, & personal artifacts. Formal issues such as shape, composition, surface, & scale will be discussed in relation to the creation of meaningful images." The Man in the Moss is one of the most fascinating finds of the century. But, for the isolated Pennine community of Bridelow, his removal is a sinister sign. A danger to the ancient spiritual tradition maintained, curiously, by the Mothers' Union. In the weeks approaching Samhain - the Celtic feast of the dead - tragedy strikes again & again in Bridelow. Scottish folk singer Moira Cairns & American film producer Mungo Macbeth discover their Celtic roots are deeper & darker than they imagined. And, as fundamentalist zealots of both Christian & satanic persuasians challenge an older, gentler faith, the village faces a natural disaster unknown since the reign of Henry VIII." Labels: books
